Dream 6 - Cop Cop Vs. Overeem

ALL ABOUT DREAM 6 - Mirko Cop Cop Filipovic Vs. Alistair Overeem

CRO COPAutor: Alan Eder Translation: Karmen Horvat
Croatia`s best ultimate fighter Mirko Filipovic is back in the Dream organisation after a short break. His opponent was Dutch Alistair Overeem, who is slowly confirming his name in the fighting world. The Croatian fighter needed a win to regain his self-confidence.

The Dutchman entered the hall with the sound of techno music, dressed in black. He currently has three consecutive wins and he was facing a tough match against Mirko.

Mirko Filipovic entered the ring to the sounds of Duran Duran`s Wild Boys, sporting a black T-shirt with a sign Cro Cop and two coats of arms. Fedor Emaliaenko was waiting the match right next to the ring, because he might be the next opponent of the fight`s winner. He approached both fighters and presented them with flower. What a lovely gesture by the great champion.

The match started and the first round lasted 10 minutes. Both fighters prefer fighting standing up, and the Dutchman has a good arms technique. Everyone expects Mirko`s kick to storm.

After less than a minute, Mirko fell to the floor and Overeem`s position was a good one. Warning from the Croatian corner told Cro Cop to be active, a however three minutes later, he started bleeding. The problem is that the Dutchman is 20 kilos heavier than Mirko, who was bleeding from his left arcade and the fight was briefly interrupted.

Mirko got up, inflicted a middle kick, but the Dutchman caught his high kick and knocked him over to the floor. This is where the Dutchman destroyed him, and Overeem was even given the yellow card.

The fight was interrupted as Overeem hit Filipovic in the groins. The Croatian fighter was given medical assistance, but soon recovered. He got up, however, he suffered another kick in the groins. The Dutchman got a yellow card.

Mirko Filipovic`s corner informs that his right testicle has entered his body and they doubt he would be able to continue the fight. After more than five minutes of medical assistance, the fight was interrupted, but nobody was declared the winner since the injury was inflicted in a non-sportsmanship fashion.

There Will Be A Rematch!!!
The best Croatian fighter in Ultimate Fight, Mirko Filipovic has returned from Japan with visible consequences from his fight with the Dutchman Alistair Overeem. The battle that was stopped did not leave anybody indifferent, but luckily Mirko does not have serious problems from the hit to his genitals.

“I apologise for my sunglasses, I have stitches on my head, I am disappointed with the result of the match because I was excellently prepared for this match. The third hit was very hard and it has given my small complications. I had to undergo a small operation later, but it is that kind of a job” said Filipovic.

After the match stories emerged that said Overeem did it intentionally, but the Croatian did not want to comment that argument.

“I do not want to say if it was intentional or accidental, if it was in the heat of the fight or not. We will fight, we will have a rematch for New Year. Some have said that I was saved by that break, but that is not correct. Despite the blood, those were small wounds, two stitches on the forehead, and I really was not injured besides those hits to the genitals, especially the third one. My guard moved and it squeezed me. I am sorry, and so is he. We have already agreed in principle about it, but it has not been confirmed 100 percent” said Cro Cop.

Mirko admitted that the fight was not good for him up until the moment of the break, but considers that the Dutchman did not have a very large advantage.

“He had initiative, especially after the first fall. I had a small knee injury and could not throw him off me, because both legs are needed for that. That was not worrying for me, I was only afraid that the referee would end it. Overeem started well, but his condition is his disadvantage. I will not say too much, we will repeat the match” said Filipovic.

Mirko presented his further plans. His next match should be for the New Year, against the Dutchman Overeem, and before him now is resting.

“I will first rest and go to the hospital. I urinated a little blood, but that is all a part of the sport. Maybe people are wrong, maybe they are right when they say that I am finished” concluded Mirko.

INTERVIEW Cro Cop manager Zvonimir Lucic

Japanese Saitama brings good news for Croatia`s Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic, whose fight against Dutchman Alistair Overeem was annulled at the end of the first round.

- Mirko is fine and has not been injured. He wanted to continue the fight against Oveerem, but the doctor would not let him, for prevention purposes – Mirko Filipovic`s manager Zvonimir Lucic told us exclusively from Japan.

Mirko received two serious kicks in the groin area during the fight. He managed to get up the first time and continue fighting, but not the second time round. He was medically treated for nearly ten minutes, but there was not much the doctors could do. The referee in the ring consulted with the doctor and decided to end the fight. After the break, the fight was annulled because the injuries were brought on by unallowed kicks. This is why the Dutchman was given a yellow card.

Fedor Emalianenko was watching the fight from the first row, who has still not decided which organisation he wants to fight for, however, according to the final Dream show attendance, he is likely to fight there.

you know mirko is one of the best fighters in the world, the losses he suffered have just had the opposite effect on his mind, then the great victories he accomplished had on his mind. He is still capable of being and competing as one of the best fighters in the world and using his age is a crappy excuse. He just has to get into a fight again, commit to the fight, and stop trying not to lose. Aerts is a perfect example, guys been knocked out submited and is still fighting at the same level, without hesitation or anything, and beats a guy like semmy. C'mon Mirko!!! Just commit to FIGHT, it's not about the W or the L on the record, your already a legend, and once you clear that hurdle look out guys.
